About us
United's investment philosophy and capabilities
United's investment philosophy is based on the principle that several carefully selected investment managers will, over a reasonable period, produce better returns more consistently and with lower risk than that of a single investment manager. We believe that no single investment management company can provide superior investment performance across all asset classes ie Australian and international equities, domestic and international bonds, listed property, etc.
Our investment philosophy is based on the following principles:
- High quality active investment managers with superior research and analysis skills can add value by recognising inefficiencies within the market over the short-term.
- Stock selection is the principal area in which investment managers can add value over the full investment cycle.
- A single investment manager may not provide superior investment performance across all asset sectors.
- A mix of investment managers and styles in a particular sector should result in consistent above median performance at below median volatility ie provide a better return for the risk taken.
- Investment performance may not be consistently enhanced by actively (or tactically) moving from strategic asset allocations.
Our investment managers are monitored and reviewed on an on-going basis to ensure that they continue to meet our performance and investment expectations and that they are managing their portfolio according to the agreed investment style. Our in-house Investment Team determines both strategic asset allocation and tactical asset allocation against predetermined benchmarks designed to provide consistent and above average returns.
